A wise mentor of mine once told me: focus more on what you are adding than what you are taking away—make room for those beautiful additions.
I keep musing over that lately—what if I focus on the rhythms I can add to my day rather than everything I need to ‘get out’ or decrease? Simple shifts are powerful. Rhythms work with your mind, body, energy and heart.
These rhythms are rooted in calming the nervous system, diffusing anxious thoughts, nourishing my body and bringing more joy into my day. There’s something about pen to paper and writing out a list that helps me remember to put these into action each day.
I hope that in sharing a few of my rhythms for this new year, you are encouraged to create your own

Rhythms for 2024
pause before I react—count 1-2-3-4-5
walk into the plans God has for my life each day—stop spinning my wheels with my agenda
early morning hour to pray, read my Bible, connect with my children and plan out my day before ever opening social media or my email inbox
speak words sweet like honey in our home—Proverbs 16:24: Gracious words are like a honeycomb. Sweetness to the soul and healthy to the body.
time unplugged—airplane mode on my phone and ‘do not disturb’ hours set
moments over needs—be present in the moment, let the laundry and clean kitchen go and embrace the moment of joy and laughter with my family rather than constantly “doing”
eyes fully engaged in the moment—whoever is in front of me would feel worthy of my time
exercise and moving my body—even if its only 10 minutes or I have littles under foot
using my hands to nourish my body and my family—baking sourdough bread, fresh snacks and more homemade meals however simple they may be
reading and writing before bed—I’ve always loved to read and write and have found comfort and healing in these activities after a rough year
getting dressed and ready for the day—this is truly about how I show up for myself, not how I look for others and boosts my confidence, energy and productivity.
invite nature into our daily rhythms—whether its fresh flowers or picking wildflowers with my kids, cooking with fresh herbs, using plant remedies like CBD or Manuka honey
Tell me one rhythm you are loving about your day?
I love this list! It puts into words a lot of what I have been thinking.
So many good ones—sweet words, unplugging, nature, movement, working with my hands, reading and writing. I’d add seeking out joy and delight, creating moments of calm in my day (from this fabulous blog post I read 😉), and daily acts of kindness for myself.
